Steal | Deal | Appeal | For Real?

Every find has its price.

Get my take on fair market values for vintage furniture selling in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Next to every listing’s asking price, I add:

STEAL

A bargain. Pounce & pay up: it’ll be gone soon!

DEAL

Reasonably priced. Never hurts to negotiate!

APPEAL

Ambitiously priced. But nice. Lowball & hope!

FOR REAL?

Not-in-a-million-years priced. Interesting but don’t buy unless the seller drastically slashes their expectations!

  1. Do you ever ship items? I love your stuff and your style is almost exactly my style.

    • Sorry, Pamelia, I’m not even selling any of it – it’s just my favourite vintage furniture and decor picks from Kijiji & Craigslist Montreal that I find and don’t end up buying for myself, but deserve to find a good home. Glad you’re liking my finds, though!

You really know your stuff. Would you mind looking at some furniture I’m selling on Craigslist and Kijiji in Toronto for my mother-in-law and let me know if my pricing is okay?

    • I’d be happy to give you an estimate, Carol, but I’m not very familiar with the Toronto scene – prices are generally higher than Montreal, which is good news for you 🙂 Suggest you contact Claire at Take This Sofa too: she’s a Toronto Craigslist furniture maven!

Thank you Jennifer. I think the furniture is mostly from the 70s. They are solid walnut pieces but not particularly unusual or anything. I’ve had a few replies and I’ll have a contents sale next week and just get what I can get.

  3. How do we find the furniture you have listed ? I guess that tansu is long gone !

    • That Tansu chest was great, and I think it unfortunately got snapped up within days. I’m actually not affiliated with any of the sellers or items I feature on the blog, just trying to steer Montrealers towards cool furniture finds I stumble across while shopping. Thanks for reading Violaine!

  4. Being a senior citizen.and not very internet savvy I’m not quite sure but are yOu selling these items???? I’m. Soooo interested in a vontage chrome bed ….. Do you still have one???? I live in Georgia? If you don’t have one or know where Ioght look please let me know. Thanks !

    • Actually, you’re completely right, Anne: I’m not selling anything personally, just helping people find good deals on vintage furniture from Montreal’s online classifieds like Kijiji and Craigslist.

That chrome bed was outstanding, both from a design AND deal standpoint, and I believe it was snatched up right away – there was a lot of interest in buying it even among the blog’s readers.

Your best bet is to scour your local dealers and auction houses scouting for a similar piece – it was a fairly popular ’70s style, and vintage examples are floating around. Good luck!

We own an identical Tiger Oak secretary desk like the one you’ve posted. My father in law has had it for years- we are thinking 1930’s. Do you have any idea what year this is from?

I wish you were selling it as I am in Australia and loving this site!

    • Thanks Renae! I’m actually jealous of the Australian scene, since I love asian antiques and you have loads of specialist dealers… plus easy jaunts to Hong Kong 🙂 Thanks for reading!

    Hi
I have a vintage model desk to sell for a really low price (a steal) – it needs a bit of tlc but quite lovely. I wonder if I could post this with you? How does your website work? I will be posting on Craigslist/Kijiji but this might make more sense.
    Thanks
    Hiba

Merci à votre site qui a fait vendre mon buffet en chêne aux vitres bombées: liste du 5 juillet

  9. I (and anyone I’ve shown your blog to) am always wildly impressed with (and grateful for) your peerless taste. Thanks for curating!

    • Thanks, Ani! I actually think the blog shows I can have questionable taste… Although it’s helping me hone my own personal style, through sheer process of elimination: I only buy pieces I love, and I’m willing to wait till the right one comes along. Thanks for reading and sharing!

  10. May sound dumb but how do I contact the person selling these various items ? This site is fantastic.

    • Thanks Skip! I’m not selling anything myself, just highlighting vintage furniture deals on Montreal’s Kijiji or Craigslist. If you click on the links in the blog post, you’ll find the actual ads, and through Kijiji or Craigslist you can contact the sellers. If a link doesn’t work, it’s usually because an item has sold and the ad’s been deleted. There’s a pretty quick turnaround… Hope this help!

  11. Looking for wooden crates at a cheap price. Have you come across any?
